Ajax tricks: Lightbox, fader, etc

In a world where everything is designed to amaze and distract, it's awfully difficult to get a user's attention. This article shows several techniques that use a combination of PHP, Dynamic HTML (DHTML), and Asynchronous JavaScript + XML (Ajax) to throw content right into users' lines of sight so that it really grabs their attention. Over time, I'm sure they will be overused and become ineffective. But for the time being, these tools can provide a fun, effective, and Web 2.0 way to get people's attention.
