Debian Linux Installation Guide and Tips

This guide, while generally useful, includes specific tips fo rbio-informaticians.
To install Linux next to Windows you can't just insert a CD, follow a wizard and drink a cup of coffee while waiting (well, the last thing you can do as a matter of fact). You need to divide your hard drive in sections called partitions. If Windows is installed on a single partition you can resize the partition using tools like Partition magic, but I prefer to do a brand new shiny install of the complete system. Make sure you have made a back-up of all your files before following these steps because they result in data loss!.
