Mac OS X: Using Fink

Trust the Fink...
Fink is a project that brings open source software to the Mac OS. That's a bit of a generalization, of course, because Mac OS X is already based on open source software and ships with quite a bit of open source software pre-installed. It would probably be more accurate to say that Fink brings more open source software to the Mac OS. Fink is necessary because the Mac OS X environment isn't quite right for compiling many open source packages as is. So, the Fink team does the heavy lifting, and we get the benefit.
