Rich client capability from web-based applications?
[AJAX] is a new web development model that forgoes the traditional http request and response cycle, allowing the creation of web applications that are much more responsive than the ones written using the traditional model. Creating AJAX applications is a complex endeavor, requiring deep Javascript, HTML and XML knowledge, including workarounds for different browser quirks.

Echo2 is an open source Java web development framework that aims to simplify the development of web applications using the AJAX model.
