If you're going to leave the Linux box up anyway, why not?
Why should you spend money for an alarm clock or a software that does an equivalent job, when you can just use you Linux box? Most likely you already have all the software that you need to make it work, it's done by you, it's highly customisable, and above all it's more fun. This short tutorial will guide you step by step in creating an MP3/ogg alarm clock using your computer, it works with all Linux systems, and can easily be modified for MAC OS X, *BSD, well you got it.
